The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights pioneers founded
the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957 to promote objectives that include human rights nationwide and
abroad; Christian principles, direct action programs to end discrimination, voter registration and political education.
The SCLC is a national organization located in historic Atlanta, Georgia. A Board,
Chapters and Affiliates throughout the United States govern the organization.
